    Visit to the Bosniak Cultural Union of Slovenia under the Peer Learning Grant 2025

    In early August, the MTÜ Ukraina Keskus team visited the Bosniak Cultural Union of Slovenia (BCUS) as part of the Peer Learning Grant 2025 (MARIO project). This experience was not only an introduction to an institution with almost three decades of history but also a source of new ideas for developing cultural and educational initiatives in Estonia.

    “We saw how long-term dedication, structure, and a genuine desire to preserve one’s culture can build a real bridge between communities,”
    — noted representatives of MTÜ Ukraina Keskus.

    An organisation with deep roots

    Founded in 1997 as a non-profit, BCUS’s mission is to preserve Bosniak cultural identity in Slovenia and represent the community’s interests in public life. Over the years, it has grown into a multifunctional hub uniting seven local NGOs, running educational programmes, organising cultural events, and working with other communities through the EXYUMAK coordination network.

    A wide range of activities

    BCUS’s work includes:

    • literary evenings and poetry readings;
    • workshops on traditional crafts;
    • publishing print and online magazines;
    • advocacy and minority rights protection;
    • promoting the Bosniak language and traditions.

    Hospitality and inspiration

    The visit began with a warm welcome in Ljubljana, where the delegation learned about BCUS’s history, viewed archival materials, and enjoyed traditional Bosniak cuisine. Guests tasted homemade burek, aromatic coffee from a džezva, and sweets that carry the spirit of Bosnia.

    “The warmth of the people and their openness to share their experience is something we will carry with us for a long time,”
    — said the participants.

    We sincerely thank the MARIO project for the trust and support that made this exchange possible — initiatives like this help communities preserve their identity while enriching Europe’s cultural landscape. Minority.PNG

    Unforgettable Moments at Our Day Camp Getaway!

    When dreams come true — that’s exactly what our camp was! A brilliant idea turned into a real adventure, giving us three bright days and two magical nights, just like in the best resorts around the world! 🏕✨ The interest was incredible — the camp became one of the highlights of the summer! But don’t worry — this is only the beginning. Many more unforgettable moments await us in the next day camp experiences. 🚌🌞

    Our camp was more than just a getaway — it was a space for growth, friendship, and inspiration. We learned to be present, put our phones aside, and reconnect with real-life communication 🤝. The kids explored their strengths, learned teamwork, and supported each other in new ways. On top of all that, we had a vibrant schedule full of exciting activities: cheerful morning exercises 🌞, delicious BBQ evenings 🍖, water splash games and Neptune Day 🌊, a colorful Indian-style party 🎈, and hands-on cooking workshops where we made soups and grilled lavash over open fire 🍲🔥.

    A true highlight was meeting two charming dogs and their bright and creative owner — a world-renowned hat designer. Her energy and artistry inspired both kids and adults alike. We’re looking forward to meeting her again soon! 🎩🎨

    Yulia also surprised us with a fun lottery where every participant received a unique designer gift. What a magical touch to an already amazing time! ✨

    We were overjoyed to reunite with everyone, share laughter and joy, and head into the future recharged and full of new dreams. By Saturday, we’re already ready for more adventures ahead! 🚀

    Thank you to everyone who was part of this — children, parents, colleagues, and friends. Your support keeps us moving forward. You are a part of this big, beautiful story ❤️

    With love,
    Your teachers Victoria & Polina
