Meeting with Ene Täht: openness, support, and shared solutions 🇺🇦💙💛
Read moreWe sincerely thank Ms. Ene Täht and her assistant Helena Viks for their openness, support, and warm communication. In Estonia, everyone has the right to be heard — and we truly felt it.
The meeting focused on key topics: education, kindergartens, language, housing, and legal support. It’s important that Ukrainian refugees now have equal rights in Estonia — to attend school, work, learn the language, receive medical insurance, and seek housing.
We discussed issues like school enrollment and withdrawal, teaching Ukrainian language, difficulties faced by teens not attending school, and rental disputes. These problems are usually not about nationality, but human factors — something universal.
We agreed to organize another legal meeting and create a Google form to collect info about employers to improve language course scheduling. The city also confirmed its help in finding kindergarten places during summer, and starting from September, plans full Estonian language immersion for grades 7–9 with added bilingual teachers.
We ended the meeting on a positive note — sharing cultural experiences. Ukrainian dumplings, borscht, and songs have warmed Estonian hearts. Thank you to everyone — we are stronger together.

Ukrainian Soul in Pärnu: A Concert That Touched Every Heart
Read moreOn May 18, 2025, in the city of Pärnu, an unforgettable event took place — a concert by the National Honored Bandurist Chapel of Ukraine named after Hryhoriy Maiboroda.
This was more than a concert — it was an emotional journey through Ukrainian culture, history, and soul. Even those who don’t speak the language could feel the depth of every melody. That is the power of true art.
Each performer lived the song on stage — through joy, sorrow, pain, and humor. This emotional expressiveness created an incredible connection with the audience. The music inspired, touched hearts, made us laugh and reflect. It felt like we were sharing something deeply personal — and at the same time, universal.
The audience was amazed not only by the banduras but also by rare and unexpected instruments — yes, even an iron scythe was turned into a musical voice! It was breathtaking.
Even those who came just out of curiosity left the hall deeply moved. After the performance, we didn’t just want to thank them — we wanted to hug every artist and say: "You are heroes of art."
We express heartfelt thanks to the chapel, conductors Yurii Kurach and Oleksii Boyar, every musician, the organizers, and the audience. This was truly something extraordinary.

Learning and Growing Together: Our English Group in Pärnu
Read moreIt all started last summer at the Ukrainian Centre in Pärnu. Back then, we began forming an English study group. The process wasn’t easy at first — people came and went, and the group changed. But a few months before the New Year, a stable and motivated group came together, and real learning began.
For over six months, we’ve studied consistently, supported each other, and made real progress. Everyone followed their own learning path, and we’re proud of the results — one of our participants has even reached B1 level! Others also achieved noticeable improvements, especially in grammar and basic communication skills.
Some people joined for a short while and moved on — that’s a natural part of any learning journey. But those who stayed until the end created a warm and supportive community that grew stronger with each lesson.
Today, we stay in touch through our Telegram group where we continue practicing English, sharing experiences, and supporting each other. This summer, we’re launching an English Conversation Club — a chance to practice speaking in a friendly and relaxed setting. And starting from September, if we have a full group (at least 12 participants), we will open a new English course from A1 to A2 focused on grammar and communication skills.
Special thanks go to our teacher, Viktoriia Kuzmenko, whose adaptive and creative teaching methods made learning accessible and engaging for everyone. Her use of certified materials and modern approaches helped us grow step by step — and most importantly, created an atmosphere of trust and friendship.
At the Ukrainian Centre, we believe that learning is not just about language — it’s about people, connection, and shared growth.

Ukrainian Center Attended the Presentation of the Book "Lihtne eesti keel" by Helena Metslang
Read moreOn March 13, 2025, representatives of the Ukrainian Center in Pärnu attended the presentation of the book Lihtne eesti keel by Helena Metslang. The event, dedicated to the concept of "simplified Estonian language," took place in a welcoming atmosphere and attracted a diverse audience, including linguists, educators, students, and anyone interested in learning Estonian as a foreign language.
Key Topics of the Presentation
The author, Helena Metslang, provided a detailed explanation of why standard language programs designed for native speakers can be challenging for foreign learners. She emphasized the importance of using "simplified language" (lihtne keel), which enhances comprehension and accelerates the acquisition of new vocabulary and grammar.
During the presentation, the following topics were discussed:
- The experiences of foreigners learning Estonian and the main challenges they face;
- The fundamental principles of "simplified language" and its scientific justification;
- Practical methods for adapting educational programs for language students;
- The use of technology and artificial intelligence for automatic text simplification.
Why Is Lihtne eesti keel Important?
One of the central ideas of the event was that complex language can slow down the learning process, create cognitive overload, and decrease students' motivation. For this reason, the author proposes a methodology for adapting texts and educational materials to make them more accessible without losing essential meaning.
Significant attention was also given to the integrative function of "simplified language"—it not only benefits foreign students but also supports individuals with special needs who may struggle with understanding complex texts. This approach fosters greater social inclusion and improves access to information.
The Ukrainian Center in Pärnu expresses gratitude to the event organizers and highlights the importance of such initiatives for those learning Estonian. We firmly believe that the knowledge gained will be beneficial for Ukrainian-speaking residents integrating into Estonian society and striving to master the local language more effectively.
We are already exploring the possibility of incorporating "simplified language" principles into our own language courses and adapting educational materials based on Helena Metslang’s methodology.
Conclusion
The presentation of the book Lihtne eesti keel was a significant event for everyone involved in language education and integration. The methodology of language simplification not only facilitates learning but also fosters a deeper understanding of Estonia’s culture and society. The Ukrainian Center in Pärnu highly values Helena Metslang’s contribution to language education and looks forward to further research and the implementation of similar approaches in practice.

Spring in Our Hands: A Women's Day Workshop at the Ukrainian Centre
Read moreOn March 9th, the Ukrainian Centre in Pärnu blossomed with the scent of fresh flowers, warm smiles, and a deep sense of feminine connection. Just a day after International Women’s Day, the space hosted an emotional and inspiring workshop, uniting women through beauty, creativity, and the gentle spirit of spring.
At the heart of the event was the creation of personal flower bouquets — a chance to step into the role of a florist and design an arrangement reflecting each woman’s inner world. It became a meditative journey of expressing feelings, memories, and hope through petals.
Each bouquet stood as a quiet portrait of its maker. Surrounded by warmth and encouragement, it wasn’t just flowers that bloomed — spring came alive in their hearts.

February 24 – A Day That Unites Memory and Freedom
Read moreFebruary 24 is a date forever engraved in the history of two nations. For the Estonian people, this day symbolizes the restoration of independence and pride in their country. For Ukrainians, it marks the anniversary of the full-scale invasion that changed everything. This day combines the joy of freedom and the bitterness of struggle, giving even greater meaning to the words “independence” and “resilience.”
Three years of struggle. Three years of resilience. Ukraine continues to resist, defending its land and future. Over these years, everyone has become stronger, more enduring, and more united. Ukrainians have learned to live under sirens, work without electricity, and support each other even in the darkest times. We have seen pain and loss, but we have also seen strength – in volunteers, in soldiers, in people who, despite everything, build, create, and dream of the future.
This day is not about fear. It is a day of remembrance, gratitude, and faith. Remembrance of those who are no longer with us. Gratitude to those who fight and work for victory.
On February 22, in the Estonian city of Pärnu, the Ukrainian Center organized a march to Freedom Square to commemorate the fallen and light candles in their memory. It was a moment of unity, where people were brought together by a shared desire for freedom. Ukrainians and Estonians understand the true price of independence – it is achieved through great struggle and the blood of the best sons and daughters.
Today, we congratulate the Estonian people on their Independence Day. Your history of struggle is inspiring, and your support gives us strength. Together, we will prove that freedom always prevails. Glory to Ukraine! Elagu Eesti!

With unique nature, fascinating historical landmarks, and scenic villages, 60 Ukrainians enjoyed every moment of this journey. The main goal was to learn more about rural life in Estonia, and we achieved it brilliantly! 🌾
Highlights of the trip: 🟢 Uulu Village (Uulu) — a visit to the local school and kindergarten, where we learned about the education system in small Estonian communities. 🟢 Jõulumäe Health Centre (Jõulumäe tervisekeskus) — one of the largest winter sports centres in Estonia. We discovered the history of this place and its importance for the country’s sports scene. 🟢 Rannamets Hiking Trail (Rannamets) and Viewing Tower — breathtaking views from the observation tower were the highlight of the trip. 🟢 Häädemeeste, Kabli, and Metsapoole Villages (Häädemeeste, Kabli, Metsapoole) — a deep dive into Estonian culture and history, with each village revealing its own secrets. 🟢 Fish Farm Visit — sampling local delicacies like smoked fish and other seafood added a delicious touch to our journey. 🟢 Soometsa Village (Soometsa) — this charming village captivated everyone with its natural beauty and tranquillity.
This day opened up not only stunning landscapes and unique places but also provided heartwarming experiences and new connections. Each participant left inspired and happy after this fantastic excursion!
